SEO, SMO techniques are regularly changing because of search engines’ improvements and users’ demanding prospects. It has become quite challenging to retain your position in search results with conventional optimization techniques; as many business experts or SEO experts being trapped in doing wrong SEO. The wrong SEO can result drastically bad for your website and business. Here are a few common SEO mistakes that people tend to make unknowingly.
1) Ignoring Keyword ResearchIf you think you can optimize your website for a search engine, without doing keyword research, you are ideating. Keyword research is the first step to be taken when you think to get your website search engine optimized. Keywords are relevant words/terms that represent your business. The search engine will know about your site through these keywords only.
2) Keyword Stuffing
You spent a lot of time in keyword research!!, kudos to you but having a list of appropriate keywords doesn’t mean you use them in your content, metadata, headlines or tags like sugar icing on your cake. There is a specified keyword density of 3% to 4% allowed by Google. An SEO expert should know how much and where should keywords be used.
3) Publishing Copied Content
Never try to befool search engine. Believe me; Google algorithm is far way smarter than you think. Using duplicate content or copy paste content from your website (i.e., same content on all web pages or blog or other social media post) is the biggest sin in the world of Search engine Optimization. Create original, relevant, useful and keyword optimized content for your website, if you dream of getting ranked high.
4) Mistakes with URL Redirections
Some people tend to ignore URL structure, rewriting and redirections job. Even some SEO experts don’t give it much importance until they get alert from Google. The 301 redirections, 302 redirection, 404 Error, Canonical issues, the nutshell is URL optimization holds of equal significance and is vital to be taken seriously.
5) Poor Internal Linking
The internal navigation of your website also contributes to its authenticity. An ambiguous, complicated or broken link pattern of your website page can confuse Google bot, and this may result in lagging in Google search results even though if the rest of the website is well optimized. Try to keep the internal linking or navigation of site simple, clear and easy flow for both users and search engine algorithms.
6) Skipping Meta Data
Writing title meta and description meta casually or ignoring them could be the last nail in the coffin. The metadata is the first thing that algorithm looks in a website when crawls them. Keywords optimized, well-written metadata in specified word limit can do magic for you and can make your site seated at top positions in Google search results. There are many metadata except title and description; keywords meta, there are geo meta tags, Robots meta tag, canonical meta, Alt text, Header tag (h1, h2, h3, etc.)
7) Ignoring Mobile Compatibility
While optimizing your website never ignore mobile users. A site is bound to have mobile compatibility to service competition and to get thoroughly optimized. SEO is not limited to following google guidelines for content and keywords only, and its performance is equally important especially on mobiles as it is the preferred device to access the internet today.
8) Expecting Overnight Results
As an SEO expert or business expert, you should be patient enough to sit calm and wait for SEO results appear at the right time. Optimizing your website doesn’t promise immediate results. On-page optimization, content optimization, image optimization alike are one-time tasks, but you have to do constant off-page SEO techniques to make your website show up in results or get relevant traffic or business sales. Organic results do take time, but they stay for long that why the business experts still prefer SEO over PAID marketing campaigns.
9) Neglecting Competitor Analysis
To survive competition; you need to be abreast with your competitor’s efforts as well. There are many online FREE or PAID tools available to check what your competitors are doing and where he stands. Focusing on your website SEO while ignoring competitor’s SEO will take you in a rabbit hole. An SEO expert should have analytical, technical and attentive brain to keep an eagle eye on every happening around your website.
If you found any above-enlisted activity that you ignored; immediately work on that. Avoiding all these mistakes will take you close to your goal of making your website securely search engine optimized.
